Music Videos directed by me

Yep, its been a busy year, and i've been squeezing out music videos for a few choice Portland bands like a happy summertime chicken. i have been blessed to work with great folks who have taken a chance with me, an unknown quantity to say the least! however, the results so far have been quite satisfying, so i plan to make OODLES more, eventually trying my hand at short films and features. i have a small pile of ideas i've been saving up, and more new ones by the day...just wait.

its funny, but directing really feels full circle for me. i started studying video production in high school, even moving from LA to SF to study "Broadcast & Electronic Arts" at SF State...finishing my major right off the bat, and dropping out by the time i was a junior. music stole my heart, and i followed that passion as a DJ, musician, promoter and fan for almost 2 decades, keeping photography as my main link to the very active visual part of my imagination.

so here i am. one refresher course last summer to brush up (thanks NW Film Center!) and i have found myself putting 3 videos to bed since. i feel like my creative center is on fire. unlocking this part of my brain feels right. i'm suddenly understanding myself as a photographer better, learning to hone my concepts and trust my instincts like never before. its pretty rad.

on that note, why not a little more sharing thats to the point:

making this video was a real treat, as the band told me they dug my Fairytales work, and trusted me to "go for it" aesthetically and thematically. so i did. i mean, when you are handed an epic song that sings the tale of Henry Darger, even mentioning the Vivian Girls by name, you either go straight for the "epic" jugular, or totally off into another world. if you know me or my work, you would understand that for me, there was no choice. it was Vivs or bust!

anyhoo - enjoy, and get ready for more - cause i'm just getting started.
